Injection site of an intracerebral adenoviral pressure injection. The electrode tract is visible in A and B. A shows the brain tissue as immunolabeled with S100β, an astrocyte marker, tagged with CY5. B shows yellow fluorescent protein (YFP) that is expressed in cells infected by an adenoviral vector that encodes for YFP. Each image is kalman-averaged (n=10). Note that the fluorescence pattern of YFP is such that most cells in the immediate vicinity of the injection are not labeled. This is in contrast to the fluorescence pattern of intracerebrally-injected fluorescent dyes.
