Inline graphic versus N/2 sensing matrix. The effect of applying pools of Inline graphic or N/2 individuals (on average) for the case of Inline graphic. Overall, results are comparable, yet each pooling design is preferable for different settings of pools and loci. The sparse (Inline graphic) design is more beneficial for large number of pools and longer target regions. The average coverage per individual on the right axis of each panel corresponds to the N/2 case. The coverage in the Inline graphic case is much larger since the total number of reads R is divided among a smaller number of individuals.
