The maximal number of individuals N_max, which allow for a ‘successful’ reconstruction as a function of the number of pools used, for different numbers of loci treated simultaneously. A ‘successful’ reconstruction means that for a certain set of parameters at least 475 out of 500 simulations yield zero reconstruction errors. The black line is simply the line y = x, demonstrating the performance of the naive approach of using a single lane per sample. Cases which appear to be missing, e.g. k < 200 for L = 500 simply mean that N_max < 1000.
