Figure 3

Simulation results when tail domain-mediated interactions are reversible (koff = 10 s−1). The parameters for filament interactions are ΔGf = −100 kBT/μm2; df0 = 20 nm; and dfcutoff = 40 nm. (A and C) Configuration and distribution of filament connectivity after 5 × 105 steps, or after 2.2 ms, respectively. (B and D) Configuration and distribution of filament connectivity when the filament length is longer up to L = 2 μm and the simulation space is increased to 3 × 3 × 3 μm3, with other parameters kept the same as in cases A and C. One can see that the introduction of dissociation events, even when rare, alters network topology (A and C) but does not much impact the extent of crosslinking. Increasing filament length leads to a single large network in which filaments form larger crosslinked networks.
