Collagen XIII mRNA is induced in renal vascular endothelial cells from Alport mice relative to wild-type littermates. Renal vascular endothelial cells were isolated from the kidneys of 7-week-old wild-type and Alport mice using antibody-coated metallic beads (see Materials and Methods), and the RNA was extracted and analyzed by Northern blot for expression of collagen XIII. The blot was stripped and reprobed with a β-actin cDNA to control for loading. The blot shown is representative of four independent experiments. Molecular weight markers are in kilobases.
