Table 1.

Free energies of folding of capped consensus repeat protein constructs.

nrep Construct Folding free energy (D→N)
A 3 R3 ΔG° = 3ΔGR + 2ΔGi,i +1
B 4 R4 ΔG° = 4ΔGR + 3ΔGi,i +1
C 5 R5 ΔG° = 5ΔGR + 4ΔGi,i +1
D 3 NRC ΔG° = 1ΔGN + 1ΔGR + 1ΔGC + 2ΔGi,i +1
E 4 NR2C ΔG° = 1ΔGN + 2ΔGR + 1ΔGC + 3ΔGi,i +1
F 5 NR3C ΔG° = 1ΔGN + 3ΔGR + 1ΔGC + 4ΔGi,i +1
G 6 NR4C ΔG° = 1ΔGN + 4ΔGR + 1ΔGC + 5ΔGi,i +1
H 4 NR3 ΔG° = 1ΔGN + 3ΔGR + 3ΔGi,i +1
I 5 NR4 ΔG° = 1ΔGN + 4ΔGR + 4ΔGi,i +1
J 4 R3C ΔG° = 3ΔGR + 1ΔGC + 3ΔGi,i +1
K 5 R4C ΔG° = 4ΔGR + 1ΔGC + 4ΔGi,i +1

N- and C-terminal caps are assumed to differ in intrinsic folding energy from consensus repeats (R), but have the same interfacial energy (ΔGi,i+1). Relaxing this restriction would introduce two additional interfacial energy terms (N:R and R:C as well as R:R).
