Doxycycline-induced overexpression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) (on Days 1–14) in the lungs of Clara-cell secretory protein (CCSP)-rtTA/tet(O)-MIF double-transgenic mice results in increased growth of subsequently introduced orthotopic Lewis lung carcinoma tumors (Days 14–28). Control mice include double-transgenic mice receiving no doxycycline and single-transgenic mice with or without doxycycline (P = 0.036 by analysis of variance). +/+ designates mice bearing both the CCSP-rtTA and tet(O)MIF alleles respectively. +/− designates single-transgenic littermate mice.
