Illustration of the glycerol-3-phosphate pathway. [13C18]oleic acid is sequentially incorporated into the glycerol backbone to form triglyceride (TG). The asterisks indicate the positions of stable 13C isotope incorporated from the [13C18]oleic acid precursor [13C18]oleoyl-CoA (H33C17CO-SCoA). The enzymes involved are glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase (GPAT), acylglycerophosphate acyltransferase (AGPAT), phosphatidic acid phosphohydrolase (PAP), and diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT).
