ΔprsA2 mutants are fully viable in broth culture despite an increased abundance of bacterial cytosol-associated proteins in culture supernatants. (B) Bacterial Live/Dead staining as performed on log-phase cultures of the wild type or a ΔprsA2 mutant. Live bacterial cells are stained with Cyto9 (green), while dead or membrane-compromised bacterial cells are stained with propidium iodide (red). The percentage of cells positive for propidium iodide (red) was determined by counting the number of total cells in a minimum of 10 randomly chosen fields from two independent experiments. Statistical significance was determined using a Student t test (P > 0.05).
