MGAS5005-infected ears showed an inflammatory response accompanied by inflammation by 2 dpi. Redness and swelling remained and effusion developed over the course of the infection. By 2 dpi, MGAS5005 Δsrv-infected ears showed signs of redness and swelling accompanied by effusion and an air-fluid level at the tympanic membrane. Otorrhoea was visible at 7 dpi.
