Lung EC lacking both bim and bcl-2 (bim−/−bcl-2−/−) demonstrated migration and capillary morphogenesis similar to wild-type mice. A scratch wound assay with wild-type and bim−/−bcl-2−/− lung EC was performed in A and quantitated in B. Note that wild-type and bim−/−bcl-2−/− lung EC migrate at similar rates. In C, wild-type and bim−/−bcl-2−/− lung EC were plated in Matrigel and photographed in digital format. The quantitative assessment of the data is shown in D. The data are the mean number of branch points from 10 high-power fields (×100) ± SD. These experiments were repeated with 3 different isolations of EC with similar results.
