Mussel climatic niche space measured as surface area-specific food assimilation rate (J h−1 V2/3) for Mytilus edulis physiological parameters (electronic supplementary material, table S1). The assimilation rate is plotted in relation to air temperature and solar radiation for three different wind speeds and two different body sizes. A biophysical model (see electronic supplementary material) was used to calculate body temperature to infer assimilation rate.
