Ventral spur morphology was evaluated in otherwise morphologically normal WT and FABP9−/− sperm heads. Deviations from normal ventral spur sizes were qualitatively classified as “Small” or “Absent” and counted. FABP9−/− mice had significantly higher numbers of sperm where ventral spurs were extremely rudimentary or absent (P<0.01) [n=3 mice/group].
