Values were derived from sequenced HSV-tk mutants in Supplemental Tables S6-S10. Small deletio ns (≤ 12 bp) were excluded. Identical mutants from a single clone were counted once to avoid including potential siblings.

The proportion is based on the number of deletions and rearrangements from line 3.
Deletions or rearrangements that involved loss of base pairs 111 and 112. This is the region in which telomeric repeats were inserted for the other vectors (see Figure 2).
