Figure 3

Effect of nitric oxide synthase (a) and cyclooxygenase (b) inhibitors on the ghrelin (Gh)-induced changes in the production of PGE2 and nitrite by sublingual salivary gland acinar cells in the presence of ethanol (Et). The cells, preincubated with 400 μM L-NAME (LN), 30 μM 1400W (14W), 20 μM PP2 and 30 μM PD98059 (PD) or 2 μM indomethacin (In), 15 μM SC-560 (SC), 20 μM NS-398 (NS) and 300 μM ascorbate (As), were treated with 0.7 μg/ml Gh and incubated for 2 h in the presence of 3% Et. Values represent the means ± SD of five experiments. *P < .05 compared with that of control. **P < .05 compared with that of Et alone. ***P < .05 compared with that of Gh + Et.
