Three expressions determine the net duty cycle, DCN, as a function of machine duty cycle, dc. The treatment parameters are 1.3 MHz, 40 W peak acoustic power, 50 ms pulse length, maximum of 8 simultaneous treatment zones, and peak temperature around 5.25 °C. The transition from one treatment zone to the next was assumed to be 5 s. The net duty cycle is bounded from below by “min”, which is related to the transition time, and from above by “max”, which is determined by the number of treatment zones. In between, it follows the curve of “med”, which is determined by the heating constraint. The maximum net duty cycle of almost 20 % is achieved by using a machine duty cycle of 30 %.
