Kidneys were fixed and developed with X-gal either as whole tissue (A) or after sectioning from frozen tissue blocks (B). In A, the papilla and inner medulla stained heavily in the reporter kidney (right); there was no nonspecific staining in a WT kidney (left). In frozen sections (B), at low power (left), the predominance of staining was observed in the papilla and inner medulla. Scale bar = 200 μm.
