RNA oligomers were analyzed on a 5% denaturing polyacrylamide gel stained with ethidium bromide. 130-mer, 170-mer and 127-mer: chemically synthesized RNA. 130-mer mRNA, 170-mer mRNA and 127-mer mRNA: enzymatically capped and poly(A)-tailed RNA (except for the 170-mer, which included a chemically synthesized poly(A) tail). 130-mer mRNA (CEM): enzymatically capped and poly(A)-tailed RNA in which CEM instead of TBDMS was used as the 3′-end protecting group.
