Control study: visual pattern span. A first checkerboard appeared on the screen for 500 ms, followed by a 2000-ms interval. Then a second checkerboard was presented for 500 ms. In the following 1500ms the subjects had to respond whether the two checkerboards were the same or different by pressing one of two buttons on the keyboard.
