Figure 2 Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI) predicts handwriting performance in adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

Total Physical and Neurological Examination for Subtle (Motor) Signs (PANESS) scores did not predict total handwriting scores within the ASD group (A). However, PRI predicted total handwriting scores (R2 = 0.61, p = 0.007) (B). The subjects represented by filled-in circle in (A) have the same total PANESS score but very different total handwriting scores. In (B) we see that their handwriting performance is predicted by their PRI (bold circles represent multiple subjects). These subjects' samples are shown in (C): the lower scoring subject's sample is above the higher scoring subject. Higher handwriting scores represent better performance; lower PANESS scores represent better performance; and higher PRIs represent better performance. Lines represent the least squares fits.
