Damage-induced FANCD2 monoubiquitylation is unaffected by FAN1 status. In MMC-treated cells, FANCD2 is monoubiquitylated, as witnessed by its slower migration through a denaturing polyacrylamide gel. This posttranslational modification was not detected in FANCC-deficient cells, but was in cells lacking FAN1 or FANCJ.
