Schematic model of control of RNA granule formation and disaggregation Pka1 is required for formation of RNA granules after glucose starvation or EGTA exposure, while it is unclear what controls formation after hyperosmotic or heat shock. Staurosporine and Ca2+ enhance granule formation after glucose starvation, but block granule formation after EGTA exposure. After hyperosmotic shock, eIF2α is needed to disaggregate granules.
