Sequences of staphylococcal nuclease chimeras and synthetic peptide. TM sequences were fused to the C terminus of the nuclease via a linker sequence (ERVQLAHHFSEP). Flanking residues of TM sequences are also shown. Positions that vary from leucine are in boldface. The sequence of the synthetic peptide VNVV is identical to that of the TM region of the corresponding chimeric protein VNVV. The study of peptide VNVV and chimeras GpA, VNVV, and L₂₃ (also known as LLLL) was reported previously (36).
