To compare numbers between different retinas, these were calculated as a fraction of 100 cell bodies, either from our own data (rats, mice, Arvicanthis) or from previously cited information (cat, chicken). The percentage of phagosomes is quite similar between most of the different examples, except the elevated rod phagosome number in Arvicanthis.
