Normalized number of cement cracks in the cement mantle with respect to the number of loading cycles of the 7 different simulations. The cracks were normalized by dividing the predicted number of cracks by the maximum number of cracks possible, which was equal to three time the number of integration points of the cement mantle. Case I, the infinitely stiff interface, resulted in the smallest number of cement cracks. The compliant Case II resulted in almost double number of cement cracks compared to Case I.
