Mutant proteins that were present at less than 30% of normal (line) were chosen for degradation assays. (B) Degradation profiles of mutant Aer proteins. Samples were collected at selected time points after inhibition of new protein synthesis with chloramphenicol, and Aer levels were quantified by Western blot assay. The degradation curves represent best-fit values for a two-phase exponential decay, and the values shown are fractional concentrations relative to wild-type Aer.
