Analysis of promoter regulation in vivo by Cra using LacZ fusions. The promoters carrying Cra-binding sites were fused to lacZ. The expression of LacZ was determined for wild-type (wt) and cra-defective strains (y axis, β-galactosidase activity in Miller units). The genes are aligned along the E. coli genome (from left to right in Fig. 1).
