All images are 2×. In all images the endocardial surface is to the right and the epicardial surface is to the left. Reperfusion resulted in the salvage myocytes primarily in the endocardial and epicardial regions. These epicardial and endocardial regions appeared thicker in reperfused animals subjected to hypothermia. Nonreperfused infarcts were transmural, with no significant myocyte salvage.
