FIGURE 1. — Cholesterol content and infectivity of MAYV and the effect of cholesterol depletion from the viral envelope on these parameters. MAYV particles isolated from BHK-21 (HCCPs) and C6/36 (LCCPs) cells were assayed for cholesterol content using a cholesterol assay kit and for infectivity by a plaque assay in Vero cells (A). HCCPs and LCCPs were subjected to cholesterol depletion by 10 or 25 mm MβCD and, after removal of the drug, assayed for cholesterol content and infectivity as before (B). PFU: plaque-forming units.
