Acute Epidural Hematoma, Management Considerations [16]

Surgical evacuation if:
  GCS ≤8 with anisocoria, or
  Any GCS with EDH volume >30 cm3*
Nonoperative monitoring if:
  GCS >8, and
  No focal neurologic deficit, and
  EDH volume <30 cm3*, and
  EDH thickness <15 mm, and
  Midline shift <5 mm

GCS = Glasgow Coma Scale; EDH = epidural hematoma.

*Hematoma volume can be calculated by the ABC/2 method described by Kothari et al [21].
