The kringle domain (KD), but not the growth factor domain (GFD), of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), is required for inhibition of efferocytosis. Human serum albumin (HSA), single-chain plasminogen activator (scuPA), ΔGFD uPA, and ΔKD uPA, at 1 μg/ml, were added to cultures of macrophages and apoptotic neutrophils and phagocytosis assays were performed.
