The only site of phosphorylation in the cytoplasmic tail of gB during HCMV infection is the Ser₉₀₀ residue. HFF were infected at an MOI of 3 with HCMV recombinants expressing either gBWT, gBAla₉₀₀, or gBAsp₉₀₀. At 48 h p.i., ³²P_i was added, and the cells were incubated a further 18 h. The gB was immunoprecipitated from cell lysates, and ³²P-labeled gB was visualized by SDS-PAGE and autoradiography. UI, uninfected.
