Predicted percentages of deleted mtDNA based on the number of mtDNA molecules in the sample. The expected percent of deleted mtDNA was calculated using the binomial distribution, assuming mtDNA is randomly distributed (triangles) or that individual mitochondria are homoplasmic (squares) and contains on average 4.6 mtDNA molecules per mitochondrion [13]
