Total lipids of each biological sample were extracted by using a modified Bligh and Dyer method as described in Materials and Methods. Negative-ion MALDI-MS analyses of sulfatide species in the lipid extracts were performed using 9-AA as matrix and quantitation by ratiometric comparison of the intensity with that of one or two internal standards was obtained as described in “Materials and Methods.” Data represent the means ± SEM of at least six separate animals.
