Kaplan–Meier survival curves for 88 patients with World Health Organization (WHO)-defined ‘myelodysplastic syndrome with isolated del(5q)'. Overall median survival was 66 months. The figure shows median survival of patients belonging to three risk categories based on the presence of zero (low risk), one (intermediate risk) or ⩾2 (high risk) of the following risk factors: age ⩾70 years, transfusion need at presentation and the presence of bone marrow dysgranulopoiesis.
