In all experiments the concentrations of RecA protein and M13mp18 css DNA are 10 µM and 5 µMnt, respectively. k_cat was calculated over a linear range of rates from 4 to 14 minutes for all experiments. Time zero represents the addition of 3 mM ATP and 0.5 µM SSB. Averages and standard deviations were calculated from values from 3 independent experiments.
