Beginning at day 0, isotonic saline was infused for 2 weeks at about 6 times normal sodium intake. Note that at the fourteenth day extracellular fluid volume increased only 4% compared to day 0, but blood pressure increased 40%, mostly due to increased total peripheral resistance.
