Inhibition of cPLA₂α expression resulted in decreased PAO1-induced AA and PGE₂ release. A: expression of cPLA₂α, both the phosphorylated form as well as total, was significantly reduced when A549 cells were engineered to express inhibitory RNA sequence specific to the cPLA₂α gene. B: A549 cells exhibiting reduced cPLA₂α expression were significantly less responsive to PAO1 in terms of the percentage of AA release. C: A549 cells exhibiting reduced cPLA₂α expression were unable to secrete PGE₂ in response to PAO1 infection. *P < 0.05, statistically significant decrease compared with control using the Student's t-test.
