(A) OP explants (n = 24) cultured alone generated Hes5 ⁺, Delta1 ⁺and Notch1 ⁺ cells in a scattered manner. (B) In OP explants cultured together with BMP4 (35 ng/ml) (n = 12), the generation of Hes5 ⁺, Delta1 ⁺and Notch1 ⁺ cells was blocked. (C) In OP explants cultured together with Noggin (n = 18), the generation of Hes5 ⁺ and Delta1 ⁺ cells was increased, while the generation of Notch1 ⁺ cells was unaffected.
