Integrated fluorescence intensity as a function of centrifugation cycles: Supernatant (○), Resuspension (▲). The fluorescence intensity of the supernatant decreases by a factor of 80, while the fluorescence intensity of the resuspension decreases by only a factor of 2. The small decrease in luminescence intensity for the resuspended samples indicates that polymer encapsulation is not simply driven by polymer concentration gradient. Instead there appears to significant binding affinity between the polymer and the vault.
