A: There was no difference in pancreas parenchymal volume measured by CT scan between control (n = 9) and STZ (n = 7) groups at baseline, and no change in pancreas parenchymal volume was seen during the study. All 16 animals had CT scans to quantify pancreas parenchymal volume on all three occasions (for details, see research design and methods) (all P > 0.4). B: There was a good correlation between mean pancreas parenchymal volume and pancreas weight (r2 = 0.82, P < 0.0001), and the final pancreas parenchymal volume and pancreas weight (r2 = 0.5, P < 0.01).
