RLKTQDS heptads encoded by 3 hepta-nucleotide repeats are highlighted by grey boxes. In the engineered neuO sequence shown in the lower panel, the 5′-region was exchanged by a sequence that still encoded four heptads but lacks any nucleotide repeats.
