This includes women with a work-up smear, who also had a smear taken >6 years before the diagnosis but not between ⩽1 and 6 years before the diagnosis: 14 out of 18 (77.8%) women who were categorised in the period >6 years before the diagnosis had a work-up smear. The remaining four women are included in the category No cytology <6 years before the diagnosis, along with women without any smear in the past (n=73), giving a total of 77.
