Potential isomeric partial structures of 1 in the region of the fullerene. The asterisks indicate the points of attachment to the two porphyrin meso-positions. As explained in the text, 1 is found to have the R,R9f,sA structure. Each fragment has C2 symmetry, and in the drawings, the C2 axis lies perpendicular to the figure, and passes through the center of the bond fusing the two 6-membered rings at the center of the fullerene. These structures are chiral, and as a result, each has an enantiomer (e.g. S,S9f,sC). Triad 1 was prepared in racemic form.
