Increased susceptibility of the ΔacuM mutant to phagocyte killing. Swollen conidia of the indicated strains were incubated for 3 h with HL-60 cells that had been differentiated into macrophage-like or neutrophil-like cells. The number of organisms killed was determined by quantitative culture.
