All species were in the top tier of 86 active isolates as determined by clustering analysis using the complete data set. This subset of species was used to test the effect of lifestyle (pathogenic/non-pathogenic) and host specificity (monocot/dicot) on hydrolysis of eight polysaccharides and plant cell walls. For testing lifestyle, three additional pathogens of woody species were also included, Cylindrocarpon didymum, Fusicoccum aesculi and Schizophyllum commune.
