Notes: QFI, an estimate of amount of alcohol consumed, is derived from the amount, type, and frequency of alcoholic usage over the last 6 months for the nonalcoholic subjects and over the last 6 months before sobriety for the alcoholic subjects. The Full Scale IQ was determined by the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, 3rd edition.36

The P-values were determined by a student t-test. The QFI between the male alcoholics and female alcoholics (not shown) was significant (P = 0.034).

Abbreviations: MALC, male alcoholic; FALC, female alcoholic; MNC, male normal control; FNC, female normal control; QFI, quantity frequency index.
