Mice were injected i.p. with vehicle HBSS (daily x 14 days), DFO (100 mg/kg b.w. daily x 14 days), 50 μg LPS, or LPS+DFO as described in Methods. Three hours after HBSS or LPS injection, the animals were sacrificed and blood was collected. Serum sVCAM-1 (A), sICAM-1 (B), MCP-1 (C), and TNFα (D) were measured by ELISA. Data shown are mean values ± SEM of five animals per group. #P<0.01 compared to control HBSS-treated animals and *P<0.01 compared to LPS-treated animals.
