ApoE−/− mice were daily injected i.p. with vehicle HBSS or DFO (100 mg/kg b.w.) for ten weeks as described in Methods. Wild-type (WT) C57BL/6J mice were fed a normal chow diet. Serum levels of sVCAM-1 (A), sICAM-1(B), MCP-1 (C) and TNFα (D) were measured as described in Methods. Data shown are mean values ± SEM of 5 WT and 18 apoE−/− mice in each group. #P<0.01 compared to control WT animals and *P<0.01 compared to control apoE−/− animals.
