I would like to thank Dr. Surbey for the letter in response to my President’s Message published in the January 2011 issue of The Canadian Veterinary Journal (Can Vet J 2011;52:9–12). It was certainly not my intention to misrepresent the issue of continued CVMA membership for veterinarians in British Columbia. The strength of a small profession like ours is in its united voice. That voice needs as many numbers as possible in order to be heard and to effectively advance and advocate critical issues and legislation that may be crucial to the practice of our profession. The CVMA currently has full membership participation in all provinces, excluding Ontario and Quebec. By the time your letter and my response are published, the registrants of the College of British Columbia Veterinarians will have determined if CVMA membership will be maintained.
